The Healer

Yo its been a minute, but it was spent good nonetheless. I got hold of that New Amerykah and my G.O.D is this ish on fire or what man. I just had to say Tha Hump is my ish at the moment, I had Soldier on constant rotation for like 2 weeks straight but this The Healer is some soulfull boom bap hit u in the groin and make your balls swell up type Hip Hop musac. So yeah this is fresh off New Amerykah, what this is like her first album in like 8 years damn! But make no mistake it was well worth the wait, this song was produced by non-other than Madlib(Mind Altering Demented Lessons In Beats); i love it man, its kinda offside, hard-to-the-core great shout out the one of the greatest J-Dilla.

This one is for Dilla, HIP HOP!

Hip Hop Saved My Life

U know how it goes, sophomore album drops and everybody s got high expectations, it hasnt been very different in the case of Mr Wasalu Muhammad Jaco aka Lupe Fiasco the very same rapper that told everyone he never listened to Midnight Marauders and didn't have any plans to, haha, I thot that was some funny ass shizzy. Anyways i finally got my grubby fingas on the plastic that is "The Cool" a long ass mufuga of an album i must say, and the first song that got me was this baby with Nikki Jean of Nouvoue Riche i dig the melody and my mans always brings the flows, something like

" Glow like LeRoy you should see boy go
Got a daddy servin' life and a brother on the 'row
Best homie in the grave, tatted up in the cage
MinuteMaid got his momma workin like a slave
Downed baby momma who he really had to honour
Cause she was his biggest fan even let him use her Honda"

theres some 'cool' sfuff on here and hopefully i wont get tired of it like Food and Liquor, infact I was gona post "Intruder alert" but its very depressing and i aint gon nun to be depresed about plus i dig the hook on here. so here we go FnF up! this beta be a worthwile purchase Lupe, ya dig!

So Good

Who is Pharoahe Monch? Well he is a political hustla, slave to a label but he ownes his Masters! haha, yo this is such a cool song, im listenin to it and the weather's just rite, thinkin bout black thot s line on that song where he goes sumin like " puff an El on fifty deuce while I walk in the rain Heart feelin killa pain while I hop the train "... man aint this a bidge! Anyways Pharoahe uses Tweet s "My Place" (from her debut Southern Hummingbird) as a sample on this jawn produced by himself, basically a jawn design to break a lady down like sex (c) qtip haha. So Good is from Pharoeh s long awaited and criticaly rated '07 Album "Desire", here my dude shows that he is a hardcore emcee but aint afraid to put his feelings out there for the ladies and tell it like it really is, maybe growing up aint that bad afta all huh Pharoahe?, i mean he cud just ask u all to "rub on yo titties" hehe, but this is different....

"Seventies black zodiac poster positionsVenus and Mars is the god kiss the star system Recepshirage dick is hard with the bass's rhythm, Stay up the paws, lick at guitars with the god's wisdom, It's starting to rain (yes)"

Yo if any1 sees Tweet, tell her to hulla!

Soon the New Day

BK stand up! haha happy new year blogosphere im back with some soul shyte! Eardrum was one of the most underated albums of 07, with Kweli bringing a come-back bigger than lazarous' shyte, but that year is finish n klaar mos? This song here with Norah Jones is one smooth ass mufuga produced by the one and only Madlib of Stonesthrow and Quasimotto fame. The sample was taken from "Sheba's song" by Paul Charles. Its one of those songs that lends itself to a toite drum beat that keep the head bobbing and shyte, the guitar on there is mos def country baby Norah style; infact i neva thot i'd hear Norah Jones on a hip hop track but neways this song is mostly about the 'conscious' lyrics that Mr Kweli spits on here, like i said this album was underated, this song even more so! its so hot and so powerful it fina make u stop all that crap, yeah YOU! haha enjoy!

Louder Louder Louder! comin str8 from the south, finding forever tryna just be after the chocolate! If there was eva such a thing as "song of the year" this is definately my personal choice, I gota give it to my mans Kanyeeze he hooked the fug outa this beat, and yip Finding Foreva even got the Industry nod 3 Gramys for the man's efforts, and may the church say Its about gatdayum time! hopin they wont tryna India Irie him this time. This jawn was actually released as the first single off the album, I dig it coz of the mad energy man, its actually a great tribute to Jaydilla as he used the same sample( "Long Red" by Mountain) for De la Soul 's "Verbal Clap", another sample used was "We Almost Lost Detroit" by Gil Scott-Heron. Dwele does some crazy vocals on here just as if Com's delivery weren't fire enuff, anyways the breakdown at this part here:

" Everyday we hustlin, tryna get them custom rims, Law we ain’t trustin them, thick broads we lust in them
Sick and tired of bunchin it, I look on the bus at them
When I see them struggling, I think how I’m touchin them

Wachuknow bout Pap? this track off "Boyz in the Hood" the latest of the famous streetsweepers mixtape series produced by Dj Kay Slay showcases Papoose's hard-hitting lyrical prowess thats got many hip hop fans placin him right at the top of the hiphop food chain, this cat aint like a Lupe or Nas today, he is a real lyrical mc, theres no doubting his delivery and his thoughts are are always conscience, like he really knows what hes talking bout and he always says what he means! today no1 comes harder that pap xcuse the pun, haha. Playa ya Cards Right is a touchin melodic jawn, and i got this ish on constant rotation yo, now if i cud only rember that sample! Pap's debut album "The Nacirema Dream" drops August 07 (thats 'american' spelt backwards), i knw its about time, coz hiphop needs a savior, this cat is the new era yo.

Doomsday

Right back at ya! The soul is back in blogosphere, after my hiatus im comin back stronger than black coffee in the office afta a hectic nite out, ive had the unpleasant experience of loosing my beats and then having to leav all i cud salvage in the slaapcity; but yeah, life's gota go on as it tends to when some get caught licking their wounds. Doomsday a sample ripped off Sade's 'Kiss of Life' is as toite as samples get, infact ive always wondered y Sade neva gets sampled in hiphop coz her beats are always bananas?? this jawn off "Operation: Doomsday" released in 99 was Doom's firtst mainstream br8kthru; i gota say im quite chuffed i got my hands on this classic, yo did i mention, im back?

"So I turned it up faster than a speeding knife
Strong enough to please a wife
Able to drop today's math in the 48 keys of life
Cut the crap far as rap
Touch the mic, get the same thing a Arab will do to you for stealing
What the devil? He's on another level
It's a word! No, a name! MF - the super-villain!"

If yall aint heard this lady sing b4 believe me shes got a frigin powerful voice, i fell in love with her music from the first time i heard that single 'Music' u know, when u know uve just heard something toite! The album, "A change
s gone come" is named afta Sam cooke's 64 classic, and shes knee deep in the soul on this one, the music is haunting and nostalgic, mostly based on the ins and outs of love and relationships... based on her own experiences like any decent soul album should; " U cant buy, or fake Soul, its eitha inside u or it aint" she once said in an interview, for me shes the best to do it since the death of neo-soul, she definately didt buy hers, this is soul rooted in church pews deep in the south, and obviously her show here in Cape Town, Africa! is gona be off the heezay.

U ea Kae ?

This one makes for some good sunday listening, Sibongile has one of those voices that realy moves you, a timeless expressive sharp but smooth falceto that stirs up emotions on each listen. U ea kae moshanyana? (wer u goin lil niguh) this is a very self-reflective song, u knw its hard to know where the road turns like black thot said, "we'r Living the story of the most twisted kind, Turbulent times swirled around r dome like a turban, It gets disturbing, feelin alone in the urban". This song is off her 98' album, Ancient Evenings and is definately a classic; This album has artists like Tu Nokwe on backing vocals and the legendary Moses Molelekwa is playing that piano in-case u where wondering y it has that familiar tone to it, he also produced some trax on the album. here u go:

Lifetime

Its Friday! thank Funk once again. I found this soulful mosdef song while taking some time out to listen to his new 'True Magic'; an album I've been dreading to listen to, u know, I was scared in case it was like that New Danger he released 2 years ago; alas how i have deprived myself, this is a very good album...now i know good is relative, so leme just say its a banga, from the infamous 'Dollar day aka Katrina Klap', to wrestling with the demons in the industry in 'The Rape Over', he brings back that social consciousness thats missing in hiphop today. Its crazy u know, with mos' A-list hollywood career, people have been sayin all kinda things, like "ahhh he forgot how to rap.... or he shud get Bruce Willis to produce his albums look at what he did for his acting", haha. This album was also droped amidst rumours that he was just doing the project coz hes obliged to, and he's leaving his recording label, afta all said and done, if Mos Def continues to make soulful hiphop music and doesnt stop striking the empire back, cats can miss me with alla that negativity. This jawn kinda reminds me of Umi Says, from way back in the day, It's been in my head the whole week, real inspirational stuff. Enjoy the weekend.

Get Up (Sex Machine)

This has gota be one of my fav JB songs eva, closely followed by Funky Drummer, Payback and Popa Dont Take No Mess, mostly because its kinda like about me u see...neways the godfatha is finally gona get a decent funeral, i think they cudnt decide where to bury him or sumin, personaly i dont knw y dead bodies dont jus get cremated, we need the land peeps. He's the godfatha of Soul music in-case u ddnt know (no affiliations to the mafia, altho with James u neva know), the guy that put the 'rumble' in Ali-Foreman's rumble in the jungle. This song was first released on his Sex Machine album in 1970 and was a major hit, btw JB has to be the most sampled soul/funk musician in hiphop, chek how lines like 'shake ur money maker' are still being thrown around today, and of course Funky drummer is like on every hiphop producers' sampler. All I gota say is well miss u JB u been gone for a while now, but the eye-make up and permed hair will neva be forgoten, RIP. yeeeeaaayaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!

Mo Bophelong

I started listening to the 8 piece strong, Kwani Experience late last year afta they blew up with the Jazz Festival n all and missing all their shows in the slaapcity :-( dunno how I actually feel bout their 'Birth of the Muthaland Funk' (can I really listen to it from begining to end?) but I think that its got some beautiful songs on there, and Ill probably appreciate it more with time and if I where to see them live. One thing I can say howeva is this is gr8 inspiring music, a lot of funky stuff there, u know very urban, inna city jazzy kinda vibe to it. Original stuff from mzansis' youngins is hard to find nowadays... have u heard that sista betina stuff? Ok this song Mo Bophelong, is sung beautifully in Sepedi by the equally bangin lead-singer Nosisi, listen as she encourages u to go out and get whats urs, despite the pitfalls that life will always eva so generously hand out to u , u gota put in the hard work! theres a Busi Mhlongo kinda vibe to it, and the piano keeps it vibey, go get:

BABY

Baby if u let me go i swear i swear ill just change ur mind! The legendary still bringing more heat that osama in september 01. Anybody tell me what the grammys represent nowadays? or if they have eva been relevant to hiphop, coz if they are, then The Roots shuda won hiphop album of the year; but then again if wishes where horses.... This song off Game Theory features John-John of Nouvoue Riche (Anotha South Philly group to check out, members include Roots ex MC Dice Raw), puts truth to the fact that The Roots always be make banging "love jawns" with lyrics that get u kinda thinkin bout ur situations n shyte. I was hoping they'd get anotha nod from the grammy poepols, but i guess the lack of push for the album, whetha it was as a result of DefJam and president Carter not giving a shyte, or a lack of enterprising from the fellas by not puting out more singles/videos etc, definately had something to do with it; i mean Ludacris' 'Release Therapy' is bangin, but his grandmoma be bumpin Game Theory to church. u heard.

Nothing But Your Love

I promised to put out sumin more cheerful today, and it comes courtesy of the l8g8 hiphop beatmaker slash mc slash producer, also former member of Slum Villa, Jay Dee aka Jdilla. This song is taken of a mixtape called "Soulful Genius - Library of a Legend". Legendary he is indeed, Jdilla was influencial in some of the gr8test hiphop albums to come out in our times, from ATCQ's 'Beats Rhymes and Life' to Busta's 'The coming' and the gr8 Voodoo album. This song, is a remix of a track done by anotha legend in the making, Toshi Kubota, a soul-music pioneer from Japan; This guy has put out albums in both Japanese and English, he's also dabled in reggae and popish sounds, he's been getting a lota love from guys like ?uestLove and Saadiq (in a musical sense), and Ill sure be checking out for him afta hearing this remix. Anyways enjoy this one for a change, dont be so ante, go out buy flowers and chocolate, remind em that u aint theyr sunshine or ocean ur just they love!

Walk On By

Wat's beef mara hey? this is a great song for the jilted on valentines eve. Basicaly just pop in this song, be cool calm, puff on a cigarete and wish ur ex-lover/s a miserable valentines day just as urs is gona be... aiite, or if u need some relief from that red-red wine, pray that they dont see u "hao tsamaya ka le-keke"; coz u knw theyll be glad they dumped ur ass.
Dione dropped this mellowed out beauty, back in 64' u heard! Clearly rap producers like Amu, spend a lot of time digging the crates, I mean u get paid to do that, can u imagine?? This song was her biggest hit that summer, and has been sampled many times ova by guys like Amu for HHP and even Isaac Hayes on his ground-breaking Hot Buttered Soul.
Shame man...
"walk on by, let me grieve in private, coz each time I see u, I just break-down and cry, foolish pride is all that i have! so let me hide;" tiff tiff. We must find something more cheerful for valentines! here u go:

Move on Up

Recently sampled by Kanyeeze for his "Touch the Sky" The horns on this track are just legendary, kinda like a good pick-up for a gloomy weather monday like this. Curtis one of the first soul singers to include sociopolitical messages in his music, laying the foundation for many artists including Bob Marley and 'concious rappers' like Common n em; a legendary self-taught guitar player, his hard-hitting riffs where influencial in the development of Funk. Curtis was sadly paralysed neck-down in a studio accident, but continued to compose and record music till his death in 99. This dance track first appeared on his debut solo album - Curtis in 1970, and the upbeat feel to it has helped it age well, and still gets heads bumpin everytime it gets a spin. Don wori, only 5days to go b4 friday, here u go...
